Another good wine

Since I am in celebratory mood (see previous post) I have to recommend another wine that makes you feel good: Moscato d'Asti. To be called like that the wine has to originate from strictly designated region in Italy. As the name suggests, it is made of Muscatel (moscato bianco) grapes. It is slightly sparkling (the bottle should have cork, but not necessarily wire cage around it. It should be served well chilled and can be enjoyed alone (quite tasty dessert) or with fruit or cheese. I have even tried it with spicy Chinese and Indian food and it works well.
As wit all imported wines, Moscato d'Asti can be on the expensive side, but those who seek can find! I have found Villa Alena at Trader Joe's for $7.99 and for this price it is excellent. Even bottle is nice - pear shaped with vertical ribs.
I have also tried Martini&Rossi found at the local Smith's store for $13.49 - also good but the price makes you think before you buy.

Wow - new journey begins

Last week I have sent my US citizenship application to the USCIS lockbox in Phoenix, Arizona. The package arrived at the office Monday morning, as UPS records show. Overnight they texted me that the application was approved and this morning my bank records show that the check was cashed. So, in 4 to 5 months I will probably be this strange creature called dual citizen...

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to everyone! I do hope that 2012 will be much better than dreadful 2011.
To ensure good beginnings, I have tried something new and tasty on January 1st: icewine.
It is made of grapes that froze on the bush - typically Riesling (in Germany) or Vidal (in Canada).
The one I have tried was Jackson Triggs Proprietors' Reserve Vidal Icewine.
It is thick, light amber colored wine with very pleasant exotic fruit aroma. The taste is naturally sweet (not sugary) but crisp thanks to high acidity. Not surprisingly, after smelling like exotic fruit it also has clear fruity taste. Over 10% of alcohol contents, so it puts you into good mood quickly. Don't drink it with food - it is perfect dessert by itself.
